Burbank is a California city located in northwest Los Angeles County. As of 2010, approximately 104,000 people call Burbank home. Burbank is characterized by two geographical areas; the downtown/foothill section and the flatland section. It is generally hot all year round with mildly rainy winters.

Early History

Like many cities and areas of California, Burbank changed governmental hands many times during the American and Spanish expansion eras of the 1700s and 1800s. It landed its name when the area was purchased by Dr. David Burbank in 1867. In the following decade, Dr. Burbank reaped large profits from wheat farming. He eventually became one of the most prolific sheep raising farmers in California.

Burbank Today

Burbank is now known as the “Media Capital of the World” due to the numerous media and entertainment companies headquartered in the city. It is incredibly close to Hollywood but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Nickelodeon Entertainment Studios, NBC, and Cartoon Network all operate out of Burbank. The city is also home to the Bob Hope Airport, known for manufacturing some of the most covert and technologically advanced aircrafts of the Cold War era.
